Starting in late 2008 through 2011 The Brown Christmas was in a state of flux. What at the time appeared to be their final jam as a three piece occurred in August of 2008. ( the album "One More Night" is basically that last jam in its entirety) Shortly after this jam they played an awesome set at a basement show (which unfortunately there is no audio/video recordings of) of mostly songs that would end up on "Crunk Aint Dead". They seemed to be approaching a peak of sorts, and the future looked promising, or so they thought.
On the drive home from the show that night, Todd and Michael spotted a UFO. Soon after this Todd left the band, no one contacted anyone for months, and essentially The Brown Christmas was dead. It wasn't until five or six months later that Michael and Joemazing finally got together to figure out what to do. They were hesitant to keep recording/performing as The Brown Christmas, so instead they formed The Brown Christmas Revue. It was their intention to become the #1 Brown Christmas cover band; however, after a few unsuccessful jam session they realized they didn't know how to play any of their songs. So The Brown Christmas Revue was abandoned, and The Brown Christmas reformed as a duo.
It was also at this time that the microkorg and mpc1000 became part of their arsenal of instruments. As a result of these new additions, their musical hiatus, and jamming exclusively as a duo for the first time, The Brown Christmas basically had to learn how to make music all over again. The results were lengthy, often continuous, chaotic jams of noisey synthesizers, slightly off tempo spontaneous drum machine beats/samples, and giga delay loops of youtube clips. The best results of these sessions make up the first half of this album. (Chronologically these come before "Dicks Picks" and "Dear Mr. DJ...")
It wasn't until almost a year after their last jam that Todd reappeared. In July 2009 The Brown Christmas had two jam session with all three members present, and did their photo shoot for the album "Vegan Chinese Food". After this there were a few jams with duos of Todd and Michael; and Joemazing and Michael; but not another full band jam until October 2010. They began having monthly jams up until January 2011 when scheduling conflicts resulted no more full band jams until August 2011.
During this time however Jams as both duos continued. Michael and Joemazing's jams continued to be almost exclusively electronic. Todd and Michael's also had some solid all electronic jams (look for them on future albums) but mostly they experimented with simple guitar (or Bass) and drum set ups. These simple, short, stripped down songs compose the second half of this album.
